LEVEL 1 GRADINGS

LEVEL ONE QUALIFICATION

To retain a Level One qualification, umpires should be graded members of MHUA or meet the criteria of eligibility and competence as follows: -

Eligibility

Each umpire should umpire at least three competitive matches within their classification each season. MHUA may ascertain this from: -

Women’s League match reports
Umpires match record cards submitted annually by each umpire.

Competence

MHUA may ascertain this from: -

Women’s League match reports
Club reports
MHUA Assessor reports.

Any one or more of these options may be used.

MHUA may make any other enquiries as it sees fit. If either of the above criteria is not met, the Level One qualification may be withdrawn.

CLASSIFICATION WITHIN LEVEL ONE

From the start of the season 2004/05, Middlesex level one umpires will be classified 1A, 1B, 1C or 1D. The attached schedule is available as a guide for League Secretaries and MHUA Appointment Secretaries

Note that Club umpire champions have a list of umpires gradings for their club.

Level 1 Trainee : Umpire who has passed the written test in the previous 12 months but has not yet passed the practical assessment.

Umpire Trainee : Umpire who has enrolled for the next L1 course and paid the course fee.

Please note that the Women’s Middlesex League will enforce the strict application of all these grades. The Men’s South League require an INSURED Level One qualified Umpire (any classification) for all their league matches.

FREE INSURANCE is available to all umpires by joining the Middlesex Hockey Umpires Association as a Member. Associate (non-qualified) and Registered (qual. Level 1) membership is available to all those who do not wish to take appointments from MHUA but be free to continue umpiring for their club. The annual membership brings not only free insurance but also the additional benefits of a free rulebook each year, attending coaching meetings and receiving advice on umpiring matters.
